Air Hammers

Phoenix's exclusive Air Hammer design is invaluable when drilling into porous and underpressured formations. Drilling rates of penetration (ROP) with an air hammer have been shown to be 6 to 10 times faster than a conventional mud and bit system. Stage 1
OFF BOTTOM
Piston ports not alligned with control rod windows, air vents through hammer
Stage 2
ON BOTTOM
Air fills the bottom chamber and forces the piston upwards. Upper piston ports allign with control rod window

Stage 3
ON BOTTOM
The lower piston port passes control windows. Air compressed in upper chamber forces the piston downwards.
Stage 4
ON BOTTOM
As the upper chamber is forced open, the air exhausts through the bit and foot valve. Simultaneously the bottom chamber begins to fill through the upper piston port. The cycle then repeats.
