John M. Hooks, Chairman of the Board of Directors, President and Chief Executive Officer
John Hooks has been the President & CEO of Phoenix Technology Income Fund since 1995 and Chairman of the Board of Phoenix since 2000. Previous to joining Phoenix, Mr. Hooks founded Thread Tech Energy Systems Ltd., a private connection manufacturing and Fiberspar composite line pipe distribution company in 1985. Thread Tech became Fiberspar Canada and provided services to the oil and gas industry until its assets were sold in June 2003.
Mr. Hooks has over thirty years of experience in the Canadian and international oil and gas service industry, including operations, senior management and ownership positions.
Cameron M. Ritchie, CA, Senior Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer
Cameron Ritchie has been the Senior Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Phoenix since December 1997. Prior to his position at Phoenix Mr. Ritchie was Corporate Controller for Ericsson Australia Pty., a subsidiary of public multi-national telecommunications manufacturer based in Melbourne, Australia. Prior thereto, Mr. Ritchie held a corporate accounting position with Trimac Transportation Services Ltd. a public bulk transportation company based in Calgary, Alberta. Mr. Ritchie worked in the public accounting sector for Deloitte & Touche (formerly Touche Ross & Co.) in Calgary and Perth, Australia and became a Chartered Accountant in 1986.
Mike Buker, Senior Vice President Business Development
Prior to becoming Sr. VP Business Development, Mike Buker served as VP Sales and Marketing and Canadian Sales Manager for 5 years. His career at Phoenix began in 1998 as a Technical Marketing Representative. He entered the oil and gas sector in April 1997 as a Measurement While Drilling (MWD) Operator and went on to be a Well Planner for a division of Ensign Drilling called Transocean Ensign Drilling Technology. Mr. Buker studied business and economics at the University of Calgary.
Craig Brown, Vice President International Operations Prior to joining PHX Energy, Mr. Brown worked for Schlumberger Limited for over 17 years. Through his leadership and drive, he developed from a field specialist concentrated on MWD/LWD geo-steering to a member of upper management where he was responsible for various business segments. Mr. Brown has worked all over the world, including Russia where he most recently spent 3 years managing a large business unit.
Jeff Shafer, Vice President Sales and Marketing Prior to becoming VP Sales and Marketing, Jeff Shafer served as Sales Manager for 2 years. His career at PHX Energy Services began in 1999 as a Technical Marketing Representative. Mr. Shafer graduated in 1997 from SAIT with a diploma in Petroleum Technology.
Dan Blanchard, Vice President Executive Sales
Dan Blanchard joined Phoenix as Operations Manager in March 2004 as part of a merger with Radius Directional Services. In 2001, Mr. Blanchard was a founding member of Radius and served as Operations Coordinator. Prior to this Mr. Blanchard worked for various directional service providers and has over 15 years of industry experience, both in the field and in operations management.
Myron A. Tétreault, Director
Mr. Tétreault has been Chairman of Calafate Holdings Ltd., a private investment management and venture capital company, since 1999. He is also a co-founder and director of Echo Merchant Fund II Limited Partnership, Fitzroy Developments Ltd., Northern Vision Development Corp., Microplanet Technology Corp. and Webber Academy Foundation. Mr. Tétreault was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Octane Energy Services Ltd. from 1999 to April 2003. He was the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Phoenix from 1997 to 2007. Mr. Tétreault was one of the founders of Total Energy Services Ltd., where he served as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary from November 1996 to July 2000. From August 1993 to December 1997 Mr. Tétreault was a corporate and securities lawyer with the law firm of Bennett Jones Verchere (now Bennett Jones, LLP). Mr. Tétreault obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1992 and his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Ottawa in 1988. He is a director or officer of several other private companies.
James K. Gray, Director
Mr. Gray has been engaged in the oil and natural gas exploration business in western Canada for the past fifty years. In 1973, Mr. Gray co-founded and served as Executive Vice President, President and CEO, and Chairman at Canadian Hunter Exploration Ltd., one of Canada's larger natural gas producers. In addition to his role as director at Phoenix, Mr. Gray is a member on the board of directors of various other corporations. Mr. Gray was awarded an Honourary Doctor of Laws degree in 1991 by the University of Calgary, and was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1995. In March of 2001, Mr. Gray received the Energy Person of the Year Award from the Energy Council of Canada. He was inducted into the Canadian Petroleum Hall of Fame in October 2001. In October 2002, Mr. Gray was invested as a Member of the Alberta Order of Excellence by Her Worship, Lieutenant Governor Lois Hole. Mr. Gray was inducted into the Calgary Business Hall of Fame in October 2004.
James Cameron Bailey, Director
Mr. Bailey is a Chartered Financial Analyst who has worked in the investment business for the past 19 years. He was previously the Managing Director of Corporate Finance at Peters & Co. Limited, a boutique investment firm specializing in oil and gas in Calgary, and was a key member of the executive committee and the board of directors. In 1997 Mr. Bailey left Peters & Co to become the founder of Energy Processors Inc., a midstream service provider, which in 1999, was acquired by AltaGas Services Inc. He joined Network Capital Inc. as the third partner shortly thereafter. In addition to founding Energy Processors, Mr. Bailey is the founder of numerous other energy companies and continues to serve on the board of a number of publicly owned resources companies. In 2003, he left Network and became the President and Chief Executive Officer of Signal Energy. Currently Mr. Bailey is the President & CEO of Fortress Energy Inc., a publicaly-traded junior oil and gas company, and has held this postion since December 2004.
Randolf M. Charron, Director
Mr. Charron has worked extensively in the oil and gas service industry. Currently he is President of his own private oil and gas consulting and investment company, Characo Corporation. He also acts as a director of Savanna Energy Services Corp., Drillers Technology Corp., Xtreme Coil Drilling Corporation and Wrangler West Energy Corp. Prior to these public company directorships he served as a board member of Artisan Corporation, Player Petroleum Corporation, Plain Energy Services Ltd. and Nevis Energy Services. From 1988 to 1997, Mr. Charron was the Vice President and a Founding Director of Artisan Corporation, a public oil and gas service company. During his work history he has been a director of the Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors and serviced on numerous committees such as: Accident Prevention and Training; Industry Forecast; Petroleum Industry Training Services; and was Chairman of the Petroleum Industry Safety Seminar.
Judith J Athaide, Director
Ms. Athaide is a Professional Engineer who has been engaged in the energy industry for the past 20 years. She is currently President, and co-founder, of The Cogent Group Inc, an independent energy consultancy specializing in assisting organizations transition to, and thrive within, competitive electricity environments. In addition, she is a regular contributor to industry newsletters. Prior to founding The Cogent Group in 1999, Ms Athaide held a variety of senior commercial and technical roles in the energy industry and academic positions at the University of Alberta, Brandon University, University of Calgary and Mount Royal College. Ms Athaide obtained a B. Sc. in Mechanical Engineering and a MBA from the University of Alberta and a B.Comm (Honours) from the University of Manitoba. In addition to PHX Energy Services Corp., Ms Athaide currently serves on the Boards of Fortis Alberta Inc., Cimarron Engineering, Cognera Corp and on the Business Advisory Council at the University of Alberta.
Lawrence (Larry) M. Hibbard
Mr. Hibbard has spent over thirty years of his career in the drilling services industry, the majority of which was with Schlumberger Limited. He has an extensive background in acquisitions, operations, marketing, technology, and engineering. Throughout his career he held numerous senior management positions primarily related to international operations, including Region Vice President of Directional Drilling - Worldwide, Vice President of Marketing - North America, and Vice President of North and South America. These positions lead Mr. Hibbard to work in the directional drilling sector in Indonesia, Philippines, Brunei, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and Burma. He was also Vice President of Marketing Worldwide for Sedco Forex (a predecessor of Transocean) and Vice President General Manager Worldwide of IPM, a high growth Integrated Project Management group. Currently, Mr. Hibbard is an independent business man who, in addition toPHX Energy Services Corp., serves on the Board of Xtreme Coil Drilling Corp. and numerous other oilfield service companies.
